This Privacy Policy explains how Rebate Checker ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, discloses and protects your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Because we disclose personal information to our installation partners in the course of our referral service, we comply with the Privacy Act regardless of business size.

1. Who we are

Rebate Checker is a free comparison and referral service that helps Australian homeowners check their potential eligibility for government solar battery rebates and connects them with accredited battery installation companies. We are not a government agency and are not affiliated with any Commonwealth, state or territory government body.

2. What personal information we collect

Contact details: your first and last name, phone number and email address.
Property details: your address, postcode, state, whether you own your home, property type, whether you have solar panels, and your approximate electricity bill.
Technical data: IP address, device and browser information, the page you visited, and advertising identifiers (such as campaign parameters and TikTok click IDs) collected via cookies and similar technologies.

We only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary to provide our referral service. We do not knowingly collect sensitive information (such as health or financial account information) and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

3. How we collect it

Directly from you, when you complete our eligibility form.
Automatically, through cookies, the TikTok Pixel and similar analytics technologies when you use our website.
Through Google services (Google Places) used to help you enter your address accurately.

4. Why we collect, use and disclose it

To assess which government battery rebates may apply to your postcode and household.
To match you with one or more accredited battery installation partners who can provide you with a quote.
To contact you (and allow matched partners to contact you) by phone, SMS and email about your enquiry, with your express consent given when you submit the form.
To measure and improve our website and advertising (e.g. conversion measurement via the TikTok Pixel).
To comply with our legal obligations and manage complaints.

Marketing consent. By submitting the form you give express consent to be contacted about your enquiry by phone, SMS and email, including where your number is listed on the Do Not Call Register. Commercial electronic messages will comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth), will identify the sender and will include a way to unsubscribe. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us at hello@rebate-checker.com or using the opt-out in any message.

5. Who we share it with

Installation partners: accredited solar battery installation companies matched to your enquiry, so they can prepare and discuss your quote. We only share what they need to handle your enquiry.
Service providers: companies that help us run the website and our advertising, such as hosting (Netlify), form data storage (Google), and advertising/analytics (TikTok).
Authorities: where required or authorised by law.

We do not sell your personal information on the open market and we do not share it with unrelated third parties for their own marketing.

6. Overseas disclosure

Some of our service providers (including Google, Netlify and TikTok) store or process data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States, Singapore and the European Union. Where personal information is disclosed overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it in a manner consistent with the APPs.

7. Cookies and tracking

We use cookies, session storage and the TikTok Pixel to remember your progress, attribute your visit to the ad you came from, and measure conversions. 8. Storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure, including transmission over HTTPS and access controls on stored data. We retain personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law, after which it is deleted or de-identified.

9. Access, correction and complaints

You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you by emailing hello@rebate-checker.com. We will respond within a reasonable period.

If you believe we have breached the APPs, please contact us first so we can try to resolve your complaint. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC): www.oaic.gov.au · 1300 363 992.
